Donald Trump believes climate change is a 'hoax' yet he wants to lead the way on environmental issues
Donald Trump has a problem. He believes climate change is a
"Chinese hoax” and “bullshit” that is meant to steal American jobs.
Yet, he wants to lead the way on “Environmental issues.” At least, that’s what he told folks during his press conference announcing the U.S.’ removal from the Paris Agreement.
Trump said that he doesn’t mind the United States leading the way on “environmental issues” as long as the playing field is fair and balanced (no FOX News pun intended).
Here’s what ol’ Trump told folks, “I will work to ensure that America remains the world’s leader on environmental issues, but under a firm work that is fair and where the burdens and responsibilities are equally shared among the many nations all around the world.”
Well, the only problem with this is that Trump took the U.S. out of the agreement that would have ensured the country had a leading voice on environmental issues.
The Paris Agreement’s purpose is to lower the amount of carbon dioxide emitted into the air by using more technologically advanced methods that will enable both developed and non-developed countries to use cleaner energy sources.
Ol’ Trump there, however, says no dice. Yesterday during his press conference, Trump said that the United States will be paying the bulk of the $100 billion towards the Paris Agreement.
This is not true. All of the developed countries will provide money totaling $100 billion, in U.S. dollars, towards helping the non-developed countries to transition to a more effective clean energy source.
In other words, the financial responsibility does not fall heavily on the U.S. The financial responsibility falls on all of the developed countries which includes Britain, France, Germany, Russia, China, the United States, and Japan just to name a few.
Further, these countries will not be emptying their treasury to clean up the climate. The money the countries give will be in accordance with the countries’ laws, as well as the fact that there are banks, funds, and other private entities that will be providing financial assistance for non-developed nations.
Other nations have come out in support of the Paris Agreement. The Guardian quoted France President Emmanuel Macron as saying, “I do respect this decision but I do think it is an actual mistake both for the US nad for our planet. Where ever we live, whoever we are, we shall share the same responsibility: make our planet great again.”
Like Macron who knocked Trump’s “Make America Great Again,” British Prime Minister Theresa May said she wasn’t feeling what Trump did and that she was keeping Britain put in the Paris Agreement.
As for the folks in the U.S., the consensus is that Trump’s porch light just won’t come on and that the people of the U.S. are going to have to find a way to work around Trump; who’s telling folks he’s “representing the citizens of Pittsburgh and not Paris.”
Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto sees things differently. According to The Guardian, Peduoto said he is issuing an executive order today that will ensure his city remains in compliance with the Paris Agreement.
The Guardian quoted Peduoto telling CNN, “In cities across America, you’ll see mayors standing up and saying, ‘We got this.’”
